25th anniversary of the Finnish Language School in Beijing

The Finnish Language School in Beijing celebrated its 25th anniversary in April. The event had a good turnout as it was attended by people from the Embassy of Finland in Beijing, FinnCham, the host school Western Academy of Beijing as well as by students with their parents, teachers, and administrative personnel of the school. The weather was chilly, almost reminiscent of Finnish summer, but simultaneously beautiful, windless, and clean. The cosy garden party was held at the school, where the youngest guests could conveniently run to the playground during breaks.
To kick off the event students performed the overture Björneborgarnas marsch. The other various performances seen during the event included Finnish rap, folk songs, nursery rhymes as well as a Moomin-themed celebratory performance. The Finnish Language School’s mascot panda also paid a visit to the event as the surprise guest and cake and coffee were served towards the end.
During the last school day of the semester, a puppet show called Moomintroll’s Surprise was performed in the school library. After the show, students got to enjoy Moominmamma’s pancakes with jam, prepared by a group of older students at the school.
