Finland Society has selected Petteri Taalas as the Finnish Expatriate of the Year 2019.

Based in Geneva, Petteri Taalas is the secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a specialist agency of the United Nations focusing on weather, the climate and water resources and comprising 192 member states. Taalas has served as the WMO’s secretary-general since 2016, with his previous roles including director general of the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

This year the Finland Society opted to highlight everyone’s responsibility for climate change in its choice of Finnish Expatriate of the Year.
